£6 million per annum
October 29, 2008Whether or not Mr Ross is worth this astronomical amount, a full 250 times the average Briton’s salary is of course largely academic. This is because the BBC and the salaries they deem fit for their employees, have no need to be based on anything as crass as market forces. And they certainly have no need to be accountable to those who are forced to pay them.
Indeed it is a culture of a total lack of accountability that is currently being exposed with the scandal of Ross and Russell Brand’s disgraceful obscene message “prank”. Neither clearly felt the need to apologise until the full weight of the media fell upon them, and heaven forbid there be a review of his salary contract. But the BBC itself, clearly, felt no need to apologise to a recalcitrant public who should pay up and leave decisions as to what constitutes good taste to their betters.
Any other broadcaster of course would have reacted swiftly and expediently since their paymasters (advertisers) would have protested immediately and in the strongest possible terms. Indeed it is precisely this need to respond to the wishes of viewers and advertisers which makes the commercial broadcasters accountable.
The sooner the BBC has it’s right to extort money from virtually every household in the UK removed the sooner we will see an end to this insult. It is time for all of us who have had enough to take a leaf from Noel Edmond’s book and boycott the BBC license fee.

Who was the crettin who after hearing the program allowed it to go out? The BBC was a welcome Anty in our homes. It is now a demented Grandmother who needs to be in a home for the mental bewilded. Get rid of the license fee and get these over paid cretins to earn the money
Brand and Ross went abit too far with their prank, so what, they apologized and that should be enough. Everybody jumped on the bandwagon especially greedy MPs who only want the publicity. This issue just further highlights the real problem that is why do we pay for the BBC? The BBC license fee is outdated and should be scrapped. I never watch the BBC it is far too censored; channel 4 news has an unbiased view unlike the BBC. Why should I pay £139 a year for an unused channel that portrays a one sided view?
It is really worrying that apparently the younger generation can see no harm in what Ross and Brand did and indeed thought it funny. I shudder to think what the next generation will think “funny” and to what lengths presenters ( and I use the term loosely) will go in the future once swearing and brutality, bad manners and downright nastiness isn’t “edgy” anymore. It is mostly NOT the younger generation that pays the licence tax (it is not a fee). It’s time that this tax was abolished or equipment invented on which one could eliminate BBC channels and therefore opt out of paying this tax. Ross should be sacked and so should the moron who thinks he is worth £6million a year of my money per annum. I’m a pensioner and can think of far better things to do with this money than give it to the likes of Ross and Brand and the BBC.
:
I wonder how many viewers watch Jonathon Ross’s program on Friday nights. The BBC may come up with some statistics to show that there are many millions of viewers watch his program every Friday night. Can we trust their statistics? I do not thing so. The other important item often BBC brag about is the news. How accurate and up to date there new items are? Take for example the Israeli – Palestinian war coverage. It was very biased often not up to date. The television viewers could be able to watch more up to date and in-depth news from Channel 4 and Ski than from the BBC.
There are so many other examples including the lavish salaries and the perks that the top BBC producers and executives get annually. If you have watched Wimbledon tennis few weeks ago you may have seen some familiar faces from the BBC sitting amongst the spectators. I wonder who paid for their tickets?. All in all the license fee that we have been paying is not worth at all and should be abolished.
